5 Timeless Designer Vintage Classic Pieces to invest in

Today I’m going to show you 5 timeless designer vintage classic pieces to invest in. You know an investment piece when it has been existing for years and still gets newly produced and bought. Another factor to recognize an investment piece as a proportional increase in the price. I personally share the opinion that classic pieces give a better return because they are timeless and therefor never go out of fashion. Special collections can be worth investing in, but in this case you have a higher risk that it will be out of fashion in some time.

1. Chanel 2.55 Classic Bag

The Chanel 2.55 owns its name to its birth year and month, and is still produced nowadays. Coco Chanel got inspired by military bags, which the person wearing it free moving space because of its one shoulder strap. The mademoiselle was wearing the bag herself on horse-races, together with spy glasses. Coco Chanel was always visionary and revolutionary, freeing women from defacing fashion.  The Chanel 2.55 is timeless, luxurious, modern and functioning. Since the 1950’s, the styles vary slightly, the new ones are designed by Karl Lagerfeld.

The price in the year 1955, when it first came out was 220$! Since then, the price has been increasing to 4.700$ to 6.000$ (depending on the size). So if your grandma bought one in the 1950’s,you just got it girl! It’s interesting to mention that since 2009 the price of the bag has almost doubled. A reason for that is the internet, especially social media. Because of social media, every girl on earth is exposed to designer expressions and bloggers showing it off on Instagram & co. This bag is really never on sale and the price is increasing and increasing. The positive part is you find a high variety of Chanel bags on second hand shops for half or a third of the official price.

This makes the Chanel 2.55 in any case a timeless designer vintage piece to invest in!

2. Hermes – the Kelly Bag

The Kelly Bag has been existing since 1935. It is a handcrafted bag by the luxus fashion lable Hermés. It is named after the princess of Monaco. This bag definitely has its own history! Back in the 1930’s Hermés was specialised in riding sticks, saddlebags and travel baggage. As a tiny companion to this, Hermés developed a handbag for ladies – then called „Petit Sac Haut à Courroies“.

The bag has never been a cash cow – until it got its fame in 1956, more than 20 years after it first came out. Grace Kelly was photographed with the „Petit Sac Haut à Courroies“ and the picture went around the world.

The price for a Hermés Kelly Bag now varies from 4.500$ to 80.000$. Let me just say one word to this: INSANE

This bag is definitely a timeless designer vintage piece to invest in. In contrast to the Chanel bag, it doesn’t even have a logo on it which makes it so noble, classy and posh. The Hermés Kelly Bag stands for conservative good taste.

This classic designer vintage piece is just worth to invest in because of its long history.

Its name derived from the trenches where military personnel were stationed in WW1, the original Burberry trench coat was designed in 1912 by Thomas Burberry to keep officers protected against wind and rain.

Initially developed for the military, each feature on a trench coat has been specifically designed for a reason. The epaulettes were added to display the rank of the officers while the storm shield, found on the upper back, enabled water to run off the coat and keep the wearer dry. A pleat was also featured on the back which allowed for ease of movement when running or on horseback.
